This song was inspired by my son. He was afraid of the water when he was little. He liked throwing sticks and rocks in but never wanted to get too close. I spent some time on the island of Catalina off the coast of California and the beach there is called Avalon, and it was indeed rocky. The song is a sort of fantasy of how he must feel about falling in. About what would happen. I love the flow of the vocals and harmonies at the end, it's supposed to sound like waves.

Lyrics

Throwing sticks into the waves they disappear into the white
Turning water carried down to where my biggest fears abound
Lay waiting
Quiet & Still
On the rocky beach of Avalon.

To come down, down, down till I can’t feel the ground
Float among the garibaldi basking in the sun
At least I’m safe up here for now
On the rocky beach of Avalon.

The question’s never answered the truth is never told
Will my angel follow me down to the sonic wells
Of water sounds and giant swells of waves
That crash along the rocky beach of Avalon.

Waves of sound follow me down
Waves of sound follow me around
Waves of Avalon.

It’s the end of the world
My eyes are on the little girl
Who puts her toe into the shallow surf and then goes in
And there’s her friend
And there are no tears, as they disappear
below the rocky beach of Avalon.

Waves of sound follow me down
Waves of sound follow me around
down down down
till I cannot see or reach the ground
your arms around me like
a woven rope I’m swingin’ on
The waves of sound Scatter all around
as we throw the rocks into the sea………
of Avalon
